Community Tree Planting at Ghursali Village

The Ghursali Village is a small village located in the Lori Region just a few kilometers from the 1988 earthquake's epicenter in Spitak. Following the earthquake most of the village trees were cut down for fuel. More than 20 years later, the natural landscape of this village remains destroyed. Sponsoring the planting of 420 trees ($8,400) for the Fall of 2012 will fully implement phase 1 plantings.

Girls Leadership and Empowerment

The role of women in Armenia, especially in rural areas remains a traditional one. Future female leaders are currently held back by a lack of information and opportunities concerning career options, life options, and leadership development as well as a culturally induced lack of support for strong, enterprising women. The GLOW Girls Leadership and Empowerment Project focuses on helping 50 teen girls from throughout Armenia's regions overcome these obstacles through a 7-day summer program and a 12-month leadership program. $7,200 is needed to complete the funding of this project for one year.

Collaborative Park Project Taron IV

The Taron IV neighborhood of Vanadzor is a community built on the outskirts of Vanadzor following the devastating Spitak earthquake of 1988. This impoverished community has no public space, no park space and no play space for the 7,000 families that call this neighborhood home. Building a town square to meet these needs would provide much benefit for the residents in Taron IV. The three phase development plan is ready for implementation pending funding.

Artisan Outreach and Business Training Seminars

Currently, The Sevan Youth Club NGO is assisting four local artisans but has the capacity to assist up to 20. The pool of local talent is vast, with approximately 40 artisans studying at the Creative Arts Center and dozens more in the community. The largest barrier to recruiting and training of artisans has been a lack of equipment. A laptop, internet connection and projector are all necessary for these seminars.

Homeland Handicrafts Artisan

Homeland Handicrafts (HH) is an volunteer organization that works to create jobs for mostly women in the regions of Armenia. HH develops market-oriented products that are based on techniques the women know and materials they have. Funds are needed to continue product development, marketing and for transportation.

Genocide and Armenia in the Eyes of People with Disabilities

People with disabilities in Armenia do not have the same opportunities as those without disabilities. The Unison, NGO, will sponsor a nationwide Painting Contest open to people with disabilities to promote the Armenian Genocide, accessibility and equality throughout Armenia to raise awareness of these important issues.

The Artisans of Kapan

The House of Hope & Faith NGO operates a successful project to help address high unemployment in Kapan, Armenia. With the addition of a sewing machine and an adequate supply of materials, additional local women will be able to engage in handicraft production and earn a wage to support their families.

Armenian Young Reporters

The lives and opportunities for children in Yerevan differ greatly from those children in Yerevan. This discrepancy needs to be addressed to help the overall development of Armenia as a nation. One way to address this disparity is to regionalize the highly effective media educational program of the Manana Youth Center. This three-year project will train hundreds of children throughout Armenia in all aspects of multimedia utilizing Manana's award winning staff and teaching skills.

Jobs Creation for Women in Noyemberyan

The Support Noyemberyan NGO was created to promote investment and job creation in Noyemberyan, particularly for women. A group of women who produce beautiful embroidered products was formed and is now engaged in producing cloth napkins, tablecloths, pillowcases and other household textile with Homeland Handicrafts. To achieve sustainability, the group needs $2,000 to front the purchase of fabric and thread and for a notebook computer.

Rehabilitation of Young Minds

TRTU has been working with incarcerated youth since 2001, providing them with woodworking and ceramic making skills that they can use to earn an honest income once released. The addition of a used truck will allow TRTU to expand it work with the youth and facilitate the transportation of materials and finished goods to market.
